Yeah, they know me pretty well.

The kids asked me if I was gonna go blog about The Soloist after I finally saw it.  I grumped back at them, but there's an exchange toward the end of the film that did hit, so close to home.

This isn't exactly the order of the spoken lines, but it's the truest version.

Mr. Ayers:
I can't imagine you'd want to be my friend after I said all those things.

Mr. Lopez:
Sometimes friends tick each other off, right? That's part of the deal.

Right?  Right.  It took me so long to learn - or accept - that fact, that part of the deal.

There's way more to the film - way more - but that's the part that strikes me, right now.

*PS, yeah, I tidied up Mr. Lopez's line, some.  I just like "tick" better than the original.

  1. I rented that film a couple of months ago and really liked it. I do love that Downey Jr. guy, despite all his real-life flaws. And yes--patience and forgiveness--that's what it's all about. It took me a mere 58 years to learn those lessons...and truthfully, I'm not there yet. So you have KIDS! how exciting! My only "kids" are step-kids who are between 34 and 48.
