Joan Collins has it right

So Joan Collins has written about the "sub-lebrity" - people who are famous for being famous and not for any ability or achievement in entertainment, etc.

Last night I indulged in a "Dog The Bounty Hunter" marathon until I saw a scene from an episode I'd watched before. In it, the bounty hunters just happen to see Tapi, a Samoan lesbian crack addict about my age who they had apprehended before and who had jumped bail. They apprehended her again and enlisted her to help them catch yet another fugitive.

I was already thinking, 'how extremely odd that they just happen to see Tapi when they are seeking yet another Samoan fugitive' when Tapi said, upon being sprung from jail by Leland, "I was promised lunch."

Now, most people don't talk like that. I do, so when I heard that line the first time I watched the show, I became a Tapi fan. The second time I heard it, I realized, they already had Tapi wired with a mic ... reality, my hind legs!

I'll still glance at Dog for the sartorial splendor and Beth's demure and ladylike outfits, and because if I were younger I'd go after that Duane Lee, woo! But do I believe it's real? Pfft!

Aloha.
